La Forqueray - Jacques Duphly (1715-1789)

French tombeau by Baroque harpsichord composer Jacques Duphly (1715-1789), written in tribute to ‘La Forqueray’, presumably viol virtuoso Antoine Forqueray (1672-1745). As in the style of the French clavecinists, I’ve added a good bit of embellishment in addition to the ornaments indicated, and played each return of the rondeau a bit differently each time. This late Baroque work contains an affectual overlapping sequence in the theme, and occasionally some surprising harmony in the non-repeating sections. I’ve put the original keyboard score in the video (originally F minor), which is written in a low register utilizing alto clef, in the range of the viol. My guitar transcription (E minor) contains some octave transpositions.
