Here is a review for TWD Dead City
As a New Yorker who just about hates my city at this point I was eager to see what my favorite show did with this Dead City, TWD spin off's set taking place here. They did not disappoint because the scenery is perfect, destructive, grim, dirty, crawling with cockroaches (literally) and about 100 points past the the fantastical "gotham." They are seriously going to need a superman or a batman to navigate millions of apartments, thousands of alleys and countless floors - oh wait! They have him!
Negan is on for the ride because Maggie asked him to help her find her son, Herschel, who has been kidnapped by the latest protagonist - "the Croat." It just so happens that Negan knows this guy ... but I won't tell you from where. I'm going to leave it at that to avoid handing out spoilers.
I finished episode 2 and it was so great! There are lines that provide continuity that took me back to the spirit of the old gang; but mainly there's a scene where Negan comes alive again, but not in a good way, oooh the memories are going to be sparked. We need to remember who Negan is deep down inside.... so we get a nice reminder.
But what may get on my nerves eventually is the same thing that has me interested in remaining with this show - the complex relationship between Negan and Maggie. Maggie has been galvanized like the sharpest strongest steel since she left that farm only to watch her sister die and her father beheaded.... and then to see Glenn go out so painfully, I totally relate to her see / saw relationship with Negan. However, she must endure this apocalypse for however long she can... and we all know that Negan is a good fit for such a dangerous, monstrous world. It's not safe for Maggie to hold onto that grudge. It's pretty intense that she does so in both episodes. Will they ever find true peace with one another, or will they even have time to do so.? The show is A+ and it's going to let us know eventually.
