The Integrated Community Equipment Service (ICES) has been in operation since 2004 issuing approx 5,000 pieces of equipment and minor adaptations per year. This year it has provided over 20,000 health and social care pieces of equipment from a single source using the same level of staff and budget
Without ICES, the independence of many people would be undermined, carers would be put at risk and many essential services providing help with personal care could not be delivered safely. More patients would be admitted and fewer patients discharged in a timely manner.
The provision of community equipment is essential for promoting the independence of people with disabilities of all ages. It will often result in an individual being able to cope independently without the need for other services. In other cases it will enable the safe and effective delivery of other services involving support with personal care. The provision of community equipment also contributes to the education and development of children with disabilities.
