Elephants love fresh water and you will rarely see one drinking out of a stagnant pool of water. Instead they dig in the sand of the dry riverbeds. Whilst appearing to be dry there is in fact flowing water just not so much that it flow in the surface, in fact it filters through the sand and if you dig into the sand you are rewarded with fresh sand filtered water for drinking.
