Break testing my hand-swaged 304 stainless steel 6mm(actual 5.75mm) wire rope with copper sleeves.
It's been really tricky finding information for metric-sized wire rope and sleeves, particularly what after-swage measurements they should have. As for a metric "After Swage Gauge", after scouring the internet I only found one called "Metric ZFX-O Gauge" for Nicopress tools, and it only goes up to 6mm. However on different websites & pdfs like E-rigging's and US Rigging Supply they state a maximum "After Swage" outer diameter of 0.585"(14.85mm) for 1/4" wire, and 0.735"(18.67mm) for 3/8" wire using copper sleeves. 8mm wire rope is super close to 3/8" rope, however 1/4" is 0.35mm wider than 6mm wire rope if both are made exact. And it always isn't clear what thickness of copper hourglass sleeves that would apply to. Whatever the case, I don't quite need a swage gauge when I can easily set and lock my calipers to the desired outer diameter and use them to check my swages.
If anyone knows of any charts showing after-swage measurements for metric-sized wire rope, please let me know. Thanks!
