Phuket Big Buddha, or The Great Buddha of Phuket is a seated Maravija Buddha Statue, that sits on the peak of Mount Nakkerd (or Mount Nagakerd), in Subdistrict Karon, Phuket Thailand with stunning 360 degree panoramic views of the southern part of Phuket Island and spectacular views of Chalong Bay, Ko Lon Island and Surrounding Islands of the Andaman Sea.
The Thai official name for Big Buddha, is "Phraphuttamingmongkol-akenagakhiri", shortened to Ming Mongkol Buddha, which means, the gloriously honourable Buddha on the top of the hill of Naga.
Big Buddha is made from reinforced concrete and covered in Burmese white jade marble tiles. Phuket Big Buddha is the third tallest statue in Thailand, at 45 metres tall with a 25 metre wide base. Construction began in 2002 and the statue is 80% completed, funded primarily from donations.
