On June 27th, TASC launched "The State We Are In, Inequality in Ireland 2024" in NUI Merrion Square.
The report tackles issues relating to income inequality, poverty and deprivation, the impact of inequality on families and children, educational inequality and the impact of recent interventions to support living standards and the risks around the withdrawal of these supports. The presentation highlighted how despite improving economic conditions, enforced deprivation is increasing.
The presentation was followed by an engaged discussion on the issues raised by the report including policy recommendations. The panel included Barra Roantree, Assistant Professor in Economics at Trinity College Dublin, Karen Kiernan, CEO of One Family, and David Duffy, Education and Research Officer at Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI).
