The US Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District and its community partners, the Black Rock Historical Society and Black Rock-Riverside Alliance, held an historic celebration Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. - the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Black Rock Lock.
The open house at the Corps of Engineers office, 1776 Niagara Street in Buffalo included guided tours of the lock, an interactive virtual lock model, historic photos and displays, paintings by local artists related to the lock, information exhibits on recreation, water safety and the Niagara River ecosystem, and vintage music.
