Rhododendrons and Azaleas are prolific, spring-blooming shrubs that look beautiful in part-shade areas of the garden. These evergreen (most varieties) shrubs are great foundation plants and can even be used to create a natural screen! Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of growing Rhododendron in your garden. Along with adding gorgeous spring color to the garden, there is so much more these shrubs have to offer. They are considered to have medium deer resistance, the pollinators LOVE them and they provide winter interest! One of the key things to remember is these shrubs don't like wet feet, so make sure you plant them in a well-drained area. If you're looking for bigger Rhododendrons, check out 'Dandy Man Color Wheel®', 'PJM' or 'Olga Mezzit'. For the smaller Azaleas, check out varieties like 'Hino-Crimson', 'Stewartsonian', 'Delaware Valley', Girard's Fuchsia' and 'Purple Gem'.
