We finally make it to Foggy Ridge Farm and we get to start the first chestnut orchard maintenance of 2021. The wind over the winter was really hard on our chestnut trees. A lot of the trees are leaning and a couple of the tree tubes are completely of and laying on the ground. We been wanting to get the maintenance done a bit earlier but the weather was not cooperating.
We think a lot of the problem was do to our original stakes. we tried to save money by cutting down small trees and using them as the stakes. but our hard ground made it impossible to drive these into the ground.
We decided to use rebar and see how that works. So far so good.
