I have been on my personal minimalism journey for a bit over five years now. During that time, I have worked through various categories (such as clothing, books, etc), and decluttered many items. I am now at the point where I feel ready to begin going through my sentimental items.
In today's video, I implement the Konmari method of decluttering to guide my process while sorting through these special things.
Most people have their own way of holding onto sentimental items. For me, the storage system of choice has been a series of three boxes. Whenever a photo was printed out, or we were given a newspaper clipping - they would be tucked away into these boxes. These boxes are like a time capsule for my family, holding over fifteen years of memories!
I am beginning to realize though, that having these things stuffed into boxes, and placed on a shelf in my closet, does not allow me or my family members to enjoy them at all. In fact, in the past fifteen years I have probably opened these boxes a handful of times TOTAL!
Feeling ready to finally tackle this difficult category, I am excited to use the Konmari method. The process is simple, and involves only 4 easy steps!
In this video, I also share some of the different ways I plan to store and display these sentimental items moving forward.
