In today's video, Hayden gives a general breakdown of the differences between using a self-contained siren and using a siren driver to run speakers. Self-contained sirens offer a very simple efficient installation process, but they are generally limited in the sounds they can provide when your system is in alarm. Operating speakers using a siren driver, however, gives you the opportunity to create unique setups that can be customized to fit your specific needs. Whether the siren driver be used for voice annunciation warning intruders that police have been alerted to their presence, or creating a unique sound profile using a recordable driver, you'll have to put in a little extra planning to ensure the setup works as intended. Siren drivers can generally run multiple speakers, but you will need to pay close attention to the impedance on your speaker circuit. The wiring to your speakers directly affects the amount of power the driver draws from your system and how loud your speakers actually are. Wiring speakers in series raises the impedance of your circuit thereby reducing power draw and loudness. Parallel wiring on the other hand reduces impedance increasing your sound output and the amount of power used. It can be somewhat difficult to ensure you use the correct wiring with a siren driver because if you have too little impedance you could burn up your components, but too much impedance will keep your setup from working properly.
