The Renault Talisman is Renault's new contender in the class of large family cars. It makes many of its German rival look dull, but the Renault Talisman is not setting new standards in it class apart from design. However, comfortable to drive and with many nice features, the Renault Talisman makes life especially tough for its current French rivals.

Renault is a French car company established in 1899. Renault has since 1999 cooperated with Nissan. Renault-Nissan controls nine brands: Nissan, Renault, Infiniti, Renault Samsung Motors, Dacia, Datsun, Venucia, Lada, and Mitsubishi Motors. Today the two brands share a lot of technology, and besides the partnership with Nissan, Renault also cooperates with Samsung. The Renault Talisman is therefore sold as a Samsung SM6 in South Korea. Renault is also active in motorsports including Formula One. In 2005 and 2006 they won the championship with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel of their Renault racer.

Renault Talisman is the successor of Renault Laguna, which has been produced since 1994. Before that, Renault also produced a number of cars, and the heritage of the Renault Talisman can thus be traced back to the Renault NN, Renault KJ and Renault MT built in the 1920's. The Renault Talisman is built in both France and South Korea, and Renault Talisman shares its CMF-platform with Nissan Qashqai, Renault Espace and many others.
