The United States engages in significant beef and pork imports and exports, with the USDA advocating for Paraguay beef imports. Data from May reveals that pork exports stand at 618 million pounds, primarily to Mexico (227 million pounds). Pork imports amount to 88 million pounds, with Canada being the primary importer at 58 million pounds. Beef exports reach 267 million pounds, of which Japan receives 48 million pounds. However, beef imports surpass exports at 311 million pounds, with Canada being a major importer. Notably, the USDA aims to increase beef imports by 20 million pounds from Paraguay. Despite Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay vaccinating for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), the US, disease-free since the 1920s, consumes imported beef.
