This is the third in the eight part Indonesian series and the first of the 4 part Yogyakarta!
So much amazing food to come from this artsy, college, food packed city!
I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my friend Andre. Andre is one of the most influential food bloggers in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. You can find his work in places like:

First, we went for some Ayam Geprek, a dish that was made by some University students in Jogja. I must say these must have been straight A students, because this was a delicious way to make a meal with fried chicken!
Next up, we got ourselves some pempek and by some, I mean a lot! Different versions on Indonesian fish cakes. All the textures, flavors, and shapes combination that you could imagine! But the highlight for me were those in house made sauces!
Outside heated up and we decided to cool down with some Rojak Es Krim. Probably one of the strangest dessert/ ice cream combinations I have ever had. Yet, when everything got together...it was a true song of fire and ice.
Whew, had to rest for awhile, but then we headed for some noodles! A stall that has been open since 1952 and it’s newest noodle master has been working since 1988. Two dishes that would take me more than a thousand words each to explain how yummy they were. A true master of noodles.
Lasty, we went to a traditional market to feast on some goat! We enjoyed many goat dishes, but the highlight for me had to be the “Poor Man’s Satay” which was just satay seasoned with salt. The goat meat was so fresh and high quality. Doesn’t matter what you do, when the goat is that good by itself.
