This video ranks the top 20 highest paid NBA players of all time, until season 2019-2020.
A bit of history:
The NBA had a salary cap in the mid-1940s, but it was abolished after only one season. The league continued to operate without such a cap until 1984–85 season, when one was instituted in an attempt to level the playing field among all the NBA's teams and ensure competitive balance for the League in the future.
I tried to be accurate as possible when preparing this video, but before the season 1984-85, it was impossible to find the salaries for most of the players.
So the animation starts at season 1984-85 and goes until 2019-20, but for unknown reasons, for some players, the salaries of season 1986-87 and 1989-90 were impossible to find.
But overall, we have a pretty good idea of the evolution of the NBA salaries through the years.
For now only three players have earned over 300 millions dollars in total salary, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James, however very soon, they will be joined by other players, such as Chris Paul, Kevin Durant...
