Extra counselors were called in at Madison County Middle School today to help students cope with the wreck that involved three school buses Wednesday and injured dozens of students. School leaders say it's a precaution to make sure the students feel safe enough to get back on buses and return to school. It's understandable after you see the twisted metal, broken glass, and possibly a totalled vehicle. That was the result of the triple school bus crash on Highway 25/70 that sent one of the buses plowing into a building. 24 hours later News 13 was allowed to see the wreckage up close. 48 students and one bus driver were injured. Many more students suffered mental scars. "Tthe purpose of that is to make sure students feel comfortable today. We want them to come back to school in an environment that they feel safe in," said Dr. Christian Ramsey of MCS. School officials say it's not uncommon for students in a bus wreck to be afraid of getting back on buses. "What we want to do is to try to get them to a place where they feel secure about the situation, where they feel like they're able to get back on a school bus again," Ramsey said. Late Thursday new information was released about the backgrounds of the drivers at the wheel when the buses collided. The Highway Patrol said 57-year-old Cathy Price, a nine year veteran driver, was responsible for the chain reaction wreck. Price is charged with failure to decrease speed to avoid an accident. The other two drivers are 58 and 24-years-old. The 58-year-old has been on the job 7 years and the 24-year-old has been a driver less than a year. School leaders declined to say if any of the drivers have been in previous crashes citing privacy laws. They also declined to say if the bus drivers are back on the job.Follow Mario on Twitter: @mariobooneRelated Links:Parents Praise Emergency Responde
