This week, we want to share an inspiring story of women leaders who have lifted their families out of poverty. Leinalida Mabale, an alumna of the 44th UNEP/UNESCO/BMUV International Postgraduate Course on Environmental Management for Developing Countries, is the heroine of our story. She received the Transfer-to-Action Fellowship (TAF) for her project Empowering Women and Enhancing Environmental Conservation (EWEECO) as the program coordinator for the NGO WOMEDA in East Africa.
Through her project, EWEECO, Leinalida aims to increase and encourage the use of improved and affordable cookstoves and other energy sources among rural women. The project provides training opportunities and improves access to knowledge on environmental conservation while reducing the use of firewood. In addition, the project aims to develop income-generating activities such as fruit and vegetable gardening and poultry farming. The project also supports women's leadership and entrepreneurship initiatives.
Watch the video to see how Leinalida is creating environmental, social, and economic change by empowering women in her home country.
