Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 22 landed in Bhutan for a two-day state visit. PM Modi was warmly received by his Bhutanese counterpart, Tshering Tobgay at the airport. Later, he received a grand ceremonial welcome at the Tashichho Dzong Palace. Also, he was conferred the Order of the Druk Gyalpo by the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. PM Narendra Modi became the first foreign Head of Government to receive Bhutan’s highest civilian honour. The Order of the Druk Gyalpo was instituted as the decoration for lifetime achievement and is the pinnacle of the honour system in Bhutan. India and Bhutan share a unique and exemplary bilateral relationship founded on mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding.
