Fantasia Barrino, the youngest singer ever to win American Idol, celebrated her 20th anniversary with an appearance on the season finale of the show. Barrino, now 39, reflected on her journey from a 19-year-old single mother in North Carolina to the top two on the show. Her performances of Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About" and Gloria Estefan's "Get on Your Feet" earned her the win. On the live finale, she faced off against Diana DeGarmo with performances of K-Ci & JoJo's 1997 hit "All My Life" and a show-stopping rendition of "Summertime" from George Gershwin's 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. Barrino secured the victory, receiving 1.3 million more votes than DeGarmo, making her the youngest contestant ever to win Idol. Her first album, Free Yourself, went platinum. Barrino has released six more albums and withstood personal trials, including her triumphant starring role in Broadway musical The Color Purple. She was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2024 and launched Rock Soul Productions, an entertainment company she describes as the manifestation of her evolution as an artist, creative, and businesswoman.
