Upstate South Carolina music venue and bar owners, as well as members of the music scene gathered for a town hall style meeting at Tribble's Bar and Grill in Piedmont to learn about how they are and will be affected by alcohol insurance rates. This video is an excerpt of that meeting in which Hank Davis, VP of Governmental Affairs and Chief Lobbyist for the SC Restaurant and Lodging Association, speaks about how we "got into this mess", gives an overview of what SCRLA does, the SC Coalition of Lawsuit Reform, and what WE can do to STOP the SC Venue Crisis.
Liquor Liability Insurance rates are 10 times higher in 2023 than they were in 2017. Our small businesses cannot afford to pay those rates. Jobs will be lost. We need lawsuit reform and personal responsibility. We need your help.

$1 MILLION: The current minimum annual liability insurance coverage requirements for establishments that sell and serve alcohol.
$5,000 – $6,000: The average annual insurance policy rates prior to 2017.
$20,000 – $25,000: The annual average insurance policy rates in 2021-2022.
$60,000: The staggering insurance policy rate recently quoted to some SC establishments that sell and serve alcohol in 2023.
ZERO: The number of small, privately owned venues or bars that will survive unless the SC Legislature addresses the insurance crisis.
ZERO: The number of employees who can support their families if we do not change the minds of SC lawmakers.
