This brief video will give you an introduction to Mountain Kingdoms’ 15-day trekking holiday in the Everest region. It highlights some of the spectacular scenery and gives a taste of the luxury lodge accommodation that makes this trek just that extra bit special.
The holiday begins in Kathmandu, a fascinating fusion of ancient and modern, from where it’s a short flight to Lukla – the starting point for treks in the Everest region. A Sherpa guide and trekking crew provide a warm welcome and a cup of chai before stepping out on one of the most iconic trekking trails in the world.
The paths are well-trodden and full of life with fellow trekkers, local Sherpa people and woolly yaks sharing the trail. With no roads in the region, everything is carried - either on backs or on yaks - and all journeys are made by foot. Tea houses line the route offering welcome refreshments and a chance to sit and watch the world go by. From first step to last the views are simply stunning with deep river valleys, tumbling glaciers and dramatic high peaks. First views of Everest’s lofty summit are on the path up to Namche Bazaar and the chance to stand and stare in wonder at the world’s highest mountain brings welcome respite from the steep climb.
Namche Bazaar is a bustling, colourful town full of life and energy with numerous shops, bakeries, cafes, tea houses and restaurants. Situated at almost 3,500m, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu (the Nepali name for the Everest region) is a good place to spend a little time acclimatising to the high altitude. From Namche, the trail follows the Dudh Khosi river valley until ascending to Thyangboche Monastery. At 3,863m, this is the high point of the trek in every way. The views of Everest from Thyangboche are quite magical whilst the monastery, and visitors centre give a fascinating insight into the lives of the monks who reside here and their Buddhist beliefs and practices.
Throughout the trip the accommodation is of the highest quality available. In Kathmandu, Dwarika’s hotel provides an indulgent start and end to the holiday whilst on trek the lodges offer facilities and service unsurpassed in the Everest region. En suite rooms, hot showers, delicious food and relaxing gardens elevate the trekking experience and appeal to those who want to experience the joys of trekking in Everest, but also want to enjoy some home comforts.
