The Hayling Island branch (known locally as "The Hayling Billy") was famous for the use of the tiny Stroudley Terrier 0-6-0 tank engines of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway; a design of 1872, modified in 1911. Weighing only 28.25 tons, they were the only locos permitted to cross the timber Langstone Viaduct.
The film describes how this line's Summer Saturday intensive service of two trains each way, each hour, was run.
