At the heart of 2,000 hectares of lush forest, discover Inhotim, a remarkable garden where the opulence of the art is matched by Brazil’s natural landscape. In the 1980s, a wealthy entrepreneur, Bernardo Paz, saved these humid hills from ore mining and opened the largest open-air museum in Latin America. Since then, more artwork has been added, from the discreet to the wacky, among the foliage.
There is no starting point, no marked-off path: here, visitors are invited to lose themselves to contemplation. From the bulbous trunks of ponytail palms to sculptural, undulating octopus agaves, the vegetation rubs shoulders with the exuberant works of renowned artists such as Giuseppe Penone and Tunga. Where nature meets art: Inhotim begins a new dialogue between the environment and creative pursuit.
