Velli Maavadi Sevai (Silver Mango Tree) festival is associated with the Sthala Puranam (temple's sacred mythological origin) of the Kanchipuram Ekambara Nathar temple. Panguni Uthiram Tirukkalyanam is 14 day Brahmotsavam (annual festival) of this temple. Velli Maavadi Sevai is the 9th day night festival. Goddess Kamakshi meditated at the bottom of the ancient mango tree seeking the grace of God Shiva. On the auspicious day of Panguni Uthiram God Shiva married the Goddess in Kanchipuram. Every day In this particular day, the residents of Kanchipuram observe and feel the sacred marriage ceremony of Goddess Kamashi in all their homes. This is night 10 pm. The place is the Gangai kondan mandapam (opposite to Sanakara mutt). See the huge crowd. People in and around Kanchipuram gathered here to see the Maavadi Sevai.
