Do you need a subwoofer with floorstanding speakers? It all depends on the size of your floorstanding loudspeakers. Some good, huge 3-way speakers can play lower frequency range, than a lot of budget sub. But for a lot of 2-way speakers, subwoofers can give some new, low freq tones. Floorstanding speakers focus on the mid and high range frequencies. Bookshelf and floorstanding speakers are ideal for voices, but you will notice something missing if you listen electro and dance music with a lot of bass. If you want to hear the lower bass frequencies you'll need to add a subwoofer. In this test video I use Focal Chorus SW 700 11-inch active subwoofer, Audio Pro speakers, Yamaha AX-550 hifi class stereo integrated amplifier and Topping dx3 pro plus usb DAC.
