Education Minister Kelvin Geortzen, alongside of Premier Brian Pallister, announced the closure of in-school classes for all grades in Manitoba for the remainder of this school year.
He said the decision came following the advice of public health officials in Manitoba, adding that the ministry could reopen schools to students if public health recommends to do so before the end of the semester.
Manitoba currently has a total of 96 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 with one death.
The province has already announced the closure of all non-essential businesses in a move to slow the spread of COVID-19.
