The 2025 Subaru WRX has a new STI-tuned tS trim level, which acts as a performance alternative to the top-tier GT model. We've complained that the GT, which comes with adaptive dampers, cannot be ordered with a manual transmission. Subaru addressed the issue by equipping the harder core manual-equipped tS with electronically controlled STI-tuned dampers that can be adjusted via the WRX's driving mode selector.
The 2025 Subaru WRX is a rather spacious compact vehicle, with greater front-row legroom than competitors such as the Hyundai Elantra N and Volkswagen Jetta GLI. However, second row legroom and baggage space are below the competitors.
The 2025 WRX tS rides on matte gray 19-inch wheels with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. The gold-painted Brembo brakes with six pistons up front and two in the back provide stopping power. The exterior has Crystal Black Silica finish on the side mirrors, shark fin antenna, and rear spoiler. The taillights have a particular coloring inspired by magma, according to Subaru. Front and rear tS badging completes the external flair.
The tS also gets interior changes. Recaro's Ultrasuede front seats are standard, with STI-inspired blue accents. Subaru also uses the same blue for the seat bolsters, steering wheel, door panels, and shifter. This is the first WRX model to have a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that can provide map data and route directions. Subaru's 11.6-inch touchscreen display is standard on the tS, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Pricing will become available later in 2024.
Regardless of trim level, the 2025 Subaru WRX comes with a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine producing 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard across the range. Subaru provides a base manual transmission and an optional CVT with paddle shift functionality.
In our tests, a manual WRX TR sped from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds, while our long-term WRX Limited accomplished it in 5.9 seconds. The CVT-equipped WRX GT achieved a 0-60 mph time of in 5.7 seconds. In 2024, manual variants of the WRX were rated at 19/26 mpg city/highway, while automatics were rated at 18/25 mpg.
Subaru equips the 2025 WRX with its EyeSight suite of driver aid technologies. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, front emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, and a lead vehicle start alarm. Other innovations include standard high-beam assist, available blind-spot recognition with lane change assist and cross-traffic alert, and optional reverse automated braking.
