This is an updated version of my second video, which I first recorded before my wife gifted me a proper microphone last year. I also made some verbal errors in the first version, so I've tried to correct all that.
In Dawson City: Frozen Time (2016), Bill Morrison uses water-damaged film footage unearthed from a buried swimming pool to explore the complex history of a Gold Rush boomtown. There's a natural impulse to look beyond film decay to the footage beneath, but Morrison puts the damage front and center instead. So, what does the damage mean?
