On March 5, 1927, at the Baltic Shipyard in Leningrad, the first three submarines Dekabrist, Narodovolets and Krasnogvardeyets were solemnly laid down. In 1931 it became part of the Baltic Sea Naval Fleet. The D-2 submarine fought in World War 2.
