The ‘Serie Speciale’: The original unveiling of the 348 Serie Speciale at the LA Auto Show in 1992 marked a pivotal moment for Ferrari enthusiasts. A testament to Italian extravagance and exclusivity tailored for the American market, this 100 unit limited production release paved the way for subsequent special editions such as the 355 Fiorano, 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale, and so on.
Superior to its predecessor, the ‘Speciale’ boasted performance enhancements which included a more efficient exhaust system, a shortened final drive ratio, and a slightly wider (50mm) rear stance. The engine featured an additional 16 horsepower compared to the standard 348’s, and Pirelli P Zero (Z-rated) tires were fitted to ensure peak performance. Exterior refinements included an optimized front spoiler, a prominent prancing horse emblem on the front grill, and quite unprecedentedly up until this point, the front lip, rocker panels, and engine cover matched the remaining body color for seemingly the first time.
With a simple glance from the rear, any seasoned Ferrari enthusiast would know this is not your average 348 — the exposed taillights are the most prominent and unique feature to the Serie Speciale, a subtle and attractive difference which makes this vehicle the perfect entrant into the world of limited production Ferraris, sure to receive invitations to exclusive events and awards at various Italian concours and judging competitions.
