Clean water conservation, healthy fisheries, and easy public access to recreational boating and fishing opportunities are all made possible by the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program. Funded through a federal excise tax on the sales of fishing equipment and motorboat fuel, both manufacturers and fishermen play vital roles in the success of the cyclical program.
"I think it's really important ... to see the full circle of funding for fish and wildlife agencies. You have the recreational opportunity out there, you have the manufacturers that create the tackle and the gear we all use to recreate, and then you see those funds come back to the state to help support access, fish and wildlife management, and true conservation on the ground," said Tom Ryle, Sales and Marketing Manager of Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife.
