Things have been looking up in Whistler recently. A poor start to the season has been persisting into January, however a couple recent storms have covered a lot of the rocks, and returning the mountain to what I remember.
However strong winds persisting from the morning made it hard for Ski Patrol to clear the areas. Alpine lifts were only open temporarily and those lucky enough to get up were met with a stiff hit to the face. 7th Heaven Chair was running well below half speed and slowly but surely got us up to the top of the mountain.
As expected the chair closed soon after.
The steep bowl's on the backside of Blackcomb threatened to open, but patrollers had difficulty accessing the area.
Lots of exposure on the slopes, areas of ice, snow drift and low visibility, all the fun stuff you expect in a powerful wind storm.
