This high quality video is taken from the organ's blessing and dedication. October 18, 2013. That evening Bishop DiMarzio the Roman Catholic Bishop of Brooklyn was quoted by a reporter saying, [this organ is] "restoring the glory that was in Brooklyn"
This Brooklyn Organ was silent for years due to its dilapidated condition due to metal corrosion, age and water damage. In 2006 an effort started to restore the organ. Through the generosity of hundreds and hundreds of members of the international organ community Kilgen Opus 5163 was returned to better then new condition. The work was carried out by A. R. Schopp's Sons of Alliance, Ohio and Quimby Pipe Organs of Warrensburg, Missouri.
For years the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn could not play. The pipe organ was totally dilapidated. An international appeal for donations succeeded where almost everyone said the restoration was a pipedream. With the help of generous contributions of well over hundred thousand dollars from outside the parish and Brooklyn the organ was restored to better then new condition. It was impossible for the parish to pay for this restoration from the congregation.
