A preliminary bat survey is the first stage of determining if your site may have bat activity or a roost. This can often be a make or break issue when applying for planning permission in the UK. All 17 of the UK bat species are protected by law and if found on your site, mitigating actions will likely have to be taken before your project can be approved by local planning authorities.
One of our ecological consultants, James Fielding, walks you through how he performs a preliminary bat survey, what he looks for to determine if bats may be present and the next steps for a high roost potential property.
