"Coming from that part of the world where glamour is everyday life, when you go to the temple, you're glamorous. When you go to your son's -- I mean even here, but in India it's a little more, it's over the top. You're glamorous with many layers of glamour. GLITTERY COLLECTION BY KAHN
Naeem Khan's runway sparkled with his usual repertoire of shiny silk, glistening paillettes, beads and for this collection, Venetian hand-cut mirrored crystals.
Several designs also featured Baroque-inspired patent leather appliques.
The entire Fall 2007 collection was comprised of glamorous dresses that he says were inspired by his work for the film, "Dreamgirls."
Naeem Khan, Designer: "How it all started, I was asked to do a scene in 'Dreamgirls,' the finale of the movie and it never left my mind. It was about two months ago and I went to the premiere, it was just unbelievable and that really drove my collection. So it's really all about that. Glamour, glamour and more glamour."
Khan, born in India, learned his trade from both his father and grandfather, both of whom designed for Indian royalty. Naeem started out as a textile designer and as a teenager apprenticed with iconic American designer Halston. In 2003 he presented his debut collection establishing his reputation for shiny, shimmering clothes.
And what goes better with glamorous evening gowns than glamorous high heels? Backstage the models confessed that these days it's function over form, comfort counts.
