Thousands of protesters affiliated with Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party gathered in Karachi on Sunday to protest against the recent Quran desecrations in Sweden.
In June an Iraqi refugee burned a Quran in front of a mosque in Sweden, sparking outrage across the Muslim world. Another planned burning last week led to Iraq expelling the Swedish ambassador and supporters of influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr storming the embassy and setting it on fire.
