Since Yusuf Bey founded the now defunct "Your Black Muslim Bakery" in 1968 its members have been referred to in a lot of different ways. They have been praised for uplifting the black community in Oakland but have also been condemned as "faith based thugs" (Slate Magazine, 2007). Yakub Bey--The son of Nadir Bey and the grandson of Yusuf Bey respectively--speaks on what it was like growing up in the Bey family. He gives his perspective on the murder of journalist Chauncey Bailey and other misdeeds which were attributed to the followers of Yusuf Bey.
Yakub also discusses his many entrepreneurial endeavors as well as his affinity for Bay-Area hip-hop. Please watch this video and don't forget to subscribe, comment, like and share if you feel so inclined.
