More footage from my cobwebbed archives, this time from “The Name of the Rose” shoot, for which I wrote the final script, and in which Jean-Jacques Annaud persuaded me to play an impoverished monk. The film was shot in two quite separate locations: the 12th century Eberbach Abbey in Germany, and later on a sprawling set outside Rome.
This first video was shot on my early VHS camera in the freezing Eberbach Abbey in December 1985, some by me, the rest by my partner Bee Gilbert and our son Anno’s minder, Pippa Hall. Among others in the video are Sean Connery, Christian Slater, Feodor Chaliapin Jnr (son of Feodor the Great), Vernon Dobtcheff, Elia Baskin and of course the lovely Jean-Jacques Annaud.
The second video will be from the vast Roman monastery set under construction …
