Orchids which don't have roots are typically very unstable in their pots, as roots also anchor orchids to surfaces or media. New root tips are sensitive and should not rub against coarse media, otherwise they will just stop growing.
Orchid stakes are a common product to use, whether they are designed for orchids, or come from your local grocery shop.
Rhizome clips are a common way to stabilize sympodial orchids with a long enough rhizome.
Orchid supports or the use of floral and safe wires are also a common technique orchid growers use to stabilize big, or mature orchids which lost their roots.
