With the third Hobbit film well on the way I thought it was time to make a new trailer title. This one looks quite different to the other two, mainly because I wanted this one to reflect the darker tones of the story, as well as some of the additional storylines that have introduced from the wider events of Middle Earth and indeed the main storyline.
I don't think it will surprise anyone to learn that Smaug is defeated, as such I wanted to show that the flames in the previous title (Desolation of Smaug) have been extinguished, leaving only the remnants of smoke and ash.
I thought it would be interesting to end the sequence with a reveal of an old enemy, to fit in with the growing threat as the focus in this film will no doubts turn from Smaug to Sauron.
That's enough of that old waffle anyway, made with 3DS Max, rendered with V-Ray and composited in After Effects. I came up with the concept for this version about 22 hours ago and after having a sleep, then completing a full day in work, I'm extraordinarily happy to have this finished so quickly!
