Every hole you drill in your van is a potential rust birthplace. We don't want to birth any rust in our beautiful metal can homes! So, Rivnuts / Plus Nuts / Rivet Nuts / Cross Nuts are a way to cut wayyy down on the number of holes drilled in your van.
Additionally, they prove to be a far stronger mounting point as opposed to drilling directly into the metal of the van given the larger contact surface inside a Plus Nut for a screw as opposed to the tiny contact surface of a screw drilled through the van.
