Link to the depreciation analysis of the Porsche Cayman 987 [ Ссылка ]
In this video, I show a depreciation analysis of the Porsche Cayman 981. By calculating the average depreciation per year and per 1000KM driven, I show which car would be the best buy from a depreciation standpoint. The following models are included in the analysis.
-981 Base
-981 S
-981 GTS
What surprised me the most was the depreciation per year for the Cayman 981S. This model depreciates at a rate of EURO 2105,- per year, whereas the Cayman 981 base depreciates at a rate of EUR 3325,- per year. This is very surprising as the Cayman 981S was actually sold with a higher net price than the 981 S. One would, therefore, expect that 981 base version would depreciate less than the 981.
It becomes even more interesting when we compare the depreciation of the 981S to the depreciation of the 987S. The 987S depreciates on average EUR 3924,- which is significantly more than the depreciation of the 981 S. Also this is extremely surprising as one would expect that the depreciation of the newer model would be significantly higher than for the older model. My best guess is that this is thanks to fact that the 981 S is the last Cayman delivered with a six cylinder.
In the whole analysis, it becomes clear that the Cayman GTS clearly depreciates the most at a rate of EUR 4872,- per year. This depreciation pattern fits more with natural market behaviour.
Concluding on the analysis, we can see that the Cayman 981 S has a lot going for it. It depreciates the least per year and is very close to the 981 base when it comes to the depreciation per 1000 KM driven. From a depreciation standpoint, it is then also the smartest choice to go for the 981 S.
*Please note that I used the German market in this video as an example. This means that the absolute prices are of course different from your local market. The relative market movements should, however, be the same.
