The Morrison government is set to reveal its long-awaited Industrial Relations (IR) reforms package which is expected to address enterprise agreements, wage theft, award simplifications and the so-called Greenfield agreements.
Changes for casual workers will include a new definition embedded into the Fair Work Act and revisiting ‘double dipping practices’ following a court ruling which found casuals who had been effectively working full time should receive benefits such as sick leave.
In the wake of this decision, business owners have argued they were left with major liabilities which they could not afford to pay.
However, the Coalition are looking to ensure businesses must offer full-time or part-time work to a casual if they have been working regular shifts for over a year
The IR reforms package, spearheaded by Industrial Relations Minister Christian Porter, will go to parliament on Wednesday but is expected to be handed over to a Senate committee and debated in earnest early next year.
