What are the worst invasive fish species? In this video i will be trying to that question and many others you may have about invasive fish species. An invasive species is any plant or animal that has be introduced into an ecosystem where it doesn't belong, normally having negative impacts on native animal and plant species. Invasive fish don't only endanger native fish species but they can also cause millions of dollars worth of damage.

Our first problem invasive fish species is the Nile perch. The Nile perch is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world and as a predatory fish they can have a huge impact on a ecosystem. This is exactly what happened in lake Victoria where it has decimated the colourful cichlid species.

Our next invasive fish species is the lionfish. There are 16 species of lionfish alive today but the two problem species are the red lionfish and the common lionfish. These species have become a problem invasive species in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean sea.

Our next Invasive fish species is the round goby. The round goby can be found in the black and Caspian sea but how now invaded the great lakes of north America. These small gobies eat fry and fish eggs and have had a huge impact of the game fish of the great lakes.

Our Forth invasive fish species is the Mozambique tilapia. This African fish species is known for its hardiness and aggression. These traits are what make the Mozambique tilapia such a problem invasive fish species and they can now be found in most continents around the world.

Our last invasive fish species is the silver carp. The silver carp is native to Asia in both china and Russia and the silver carp is actually threatened in it's native range. The silver carp has become one of Americas worst invasive fish species but their habit of jumping out of the water have helped some efforts to reduce their numbers.
