After work on Thursday I went out to Rock Canyon to get some miles and see how far up the trail I could go. Things are melting quick so I was able to get all the way up onto Squaw Peak Road this time, 2 miles further into the canyon than I could get just 6 days ago. Way up on Squaw Peak Road I came across a huge avalanche that went over the road a well down the canyon. Seeing these thing in person is always so impressive. As for my next race, I am number 8 on the San Juan Solstice 50 Miler waitlist so it appears like a guarantee that I'll be headed to Lake City for a loop in the San Juans! I haven't ran a 50 mile race since I ran the Mesquite Canyon 50 back in March of 2020, literally days before the world got shut down. The focus will be using SJ50 as a training run for Fat Dog and to make a really nice video during the race. I'll be going out on some more runs this weekend to keep finding more trails that are snow free and ready to train on.
