"The school offers training for three years. After the start of school, students need approximately a year, a strong one, to reach a level where they are able to participate in a performance."

"I have to pay attention not only on the riders, but on the horses too. I consider the horses to be like sportsmen. I mix easier training with days of harder, more complex exercises."

"This year we accepted eight students. They've just started their first year here. The school was established in 2007, and since then we've taught riders here. It's not only a vocational school, it's a Spanish horse school."

"There are very highly trained horses here. Students can learn a high level of riding from these horses and that's why this it is a very unique place."

"This horse is specially trained for riding on a long rein. During the performances the man stands beside it, not in the saddle on horseback. The horse performs on a leash, and the rider communicates with the animal using the rein. They make very difficult exercises together."

"We start to teach our students individually. And as they achieve a certain level of horse riding, they start to work in groups. After a lot of work and practice they can be on a high enough level to start participate on performances in the Royal Castle, where they can prove their talent."

LEAD IN:
Hungary has a long tradition of horsemanship but the animals trained at the Epona Spanish Riding School are a cut above the rest.
Only the most skilled riders and the most talented horses make the grade at this equestrian school just west of Budapest.
STORYLINE:
Rearing up on its hind legs and perfecting its balance.
This horse is in the classroom at the Epona Spanish Riding School in Hungary.
The equestrian school was established in 2007 and hopes to revive the tradition of the pre-war Spanish Riding School of the Hungarian Royal Guards.
Now Bela's work is concentrated on schooling others in horsemanship and breeding.
