The strike started at 6 a.m. on Wednesday and will last through Tuesday, Sept. 3 at all Portland-area Fred Meyers, unless a deal is reached. The union UFCW Local 555 represents about 4,500 Fred Meyer employees. The union is accusing management of wage discrepancies among stores and departments, unfair labor practices including withholding essential information during negotiations and not processing grievances.
Todd Kammeyer, the president of Fred Meyer, said in a statement that stores will remain open and that Fred Meyer and Kroger respects their rights to bargain.
