Samuel Pepys was an English author and politician. He served as administrator of the navy of Englang and Member of Parliament and is most famous for the diary he kept for a decade while still a young man (Wikipedia).
The plague peaked in the spring and summer of 1665. The similarities of the public reaction to The Great Plague with the reactions to our current pandemic were interesting to read. He speaks of people being fearful of others, less traffic on the streets, stores being shut-up, being fearful of going out, poor people being uncounted for, and even getting a haircut. There is great fear during the rise in cases, and then also speaks of things returning to normal again. There are 148 diary entries in total. I did not read the full diary entries, as Pepys wrote of many different occurences in his daily diary, so I only read the portions of the entries relating to the plague.
Something a bit different this time around. I thought it would be neat to do a diary or journal of some sort, and this one came up and seemed to be relevant to our times.
Let me know if there's something you'd like to hear next :)
