In their final game before heading to western Canada, the Penguins were hoping to increase their winning streak to six games. Montreal, and specifically goaltender Jake Allen, had other ideas. At the conclusion of the opening period, Pittsburgh was already outshooting Montreal, 14-8, but there were no goals to be found amongst those shots. Montreal broke through first, with Drouin scoring with under five minutes remaining in the middle frame. The black and gold would lead the bleu, blanc, et rouge, 31-21, in shots in the 2nd. Finally, in the 3rd period, Pittsburgh found the back of the net. Evan Rodrigues continued his fantastic play and was rewarded with a power-play goal. Dvorak re-claimed the lead for the Canadiens just 32 seconds later, and then Lehkonen added one more to make it 3-1 for the visitors. Then, things got kind of crazy. Jeff Carter tallied his fifth of the season with under three minutes to play. 3-2 Montreal. Josh Anderson potted his first of the game into an empty net. 4-2 Montreal. Sidney Crosby scored with a nice shot from just inside the circle. This gave Crosby his first multi-point game of the season, 1G-2A. 4-3 Montreal. Then, Anderson and Toffoli scored into the vacant Pittsburgh net, resulting in the final score of 6-3 for the Canadiens. Pittsburgh launched 50 shots towards Montreal goaltender Jake Allen, but Allen stood tall.
